Member - Board of Directors

Duration: 2 years of service minimum, up to a 4 year maximum

Location: New Glasgow, NS

Time requirements: 6 - 8 hours per month (2 hours per month for Board meetings and 4-6 hours per month for committee work)

Deadline for applications: March 8, 2022

Remuneration: Unpaid volunteer position

About Viola’s Place Society & our Board of Directors

We offer emergency shelter, support & hope to homeless persons, providing food, showers, laundry services, while providing assistance to secure housing, social assistance and services, mental health referrals etc. if needed and money management. The shelter is open every evening from 7PM to 7AM and is staffed by both volunteers and paid staff. We also have a Site Manager/Housing Coordinator and a Client Trustee on staff.

The Board consists of 10 Directors elected by Members of the Society at the Annual General Meeting every March.

Viola’s Place Society is seeking a new Board member starting in April 2022.

Our mission: to provide safe emergency shelter and basic necessities to those in need, while seeking to grow effective services to further transition individuals from crisis to stable housing.

Our vision: for everyone to have a warm, safe place to sleep and food to eat. Our current recruitment efforts are focused on the following backgrounds:

• Previous experience in a Senior Leadership or Board positions;

• Active supporter/champion of issues of importance within the homeless community. • Experience in any of these areas:

● Administration;

● Finance;

● Fundraising;

● Grant writing;

● Communications/Marketing;

● Legal Services;

● Governance experience;

● Community and volunteer engagement;
